Financing eco-innovation: opportunities and tools for SMEs

Online event followed by a B2F meeting "Financing eco-innovation: opportunities and tools for SMEs", held online on October 13th 2020

Environment Park - CLEVER Cluster, together with Piemonte Region – Directorate for the Environment, Energy and Land use and the Management Department of the University of Turin, organised the online event followed by a B2F meeting "Financing eco-innovation: opportunities and tools for SMEs", held online on October 13th 2020.

The event, attended by around 40 participants, was organised within the activities of the finMED project and involved Piemonte actors of the innovation eco-system in green sectors: SMEs and innovation clusters from one side, and on the other, the banking and investor sector.

The objective of the event was to facilitate the dialogue between businesses and financers and to deepen the financing opportunities of SMEs, willing to develop innovative solutions in the cleantech sector. Moreover, during the meeting, the finMED Support Service tool was presented along with some success cases from the testing with SMEs in Piemonte. Banks and financial institutions representatives shared some interesting insights about specific issues related to financing innovation in green sectors, like the increasing importance of the ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) criteria. As businesses face changing expectations, having a clear purpose and positive impact on the planet and its people matters like never before. Every aspect of SMEs business is in the spotlight by financers, from employees’ organisation and structure, supply chain, use and management of data, right through to the environmental credentials. ESG must be embedded in SMEs strategy and form the overall narrative and purpose of their business. Participants highlighted that finMED Support Service tool can significatively contribute in this direction, providing diagnosis and perspective scenario for the proper commitment toward ESG.
